Memphis Paper Shredding Services
Tell us your zip code and what needs to go. Memphis-area providers reply with a quote for a one-time purge or a pickup on a schedule, with a truck at your door if you want to watch.

Memphis sorts freight for much of the country, which means a large share of the paper here is shipping paper: bills of lading, customs forms, driver logs, inspection reports and timecards. Companies near the airport and along I-40 and I-55 generate it every day and keep it for years.
Freight, health care and the river
FedEx runs its main hub at Memphis International Airport, and an entire industry of forwarders, warehouses, trucking firms and the dispatch offices that serve them has grown up around it. Those buildings, in Southaven and Olive Branch as much as in Memphis itself, are a good fit for scheduled service. Drivers and HR clerks all handle personal data, and the paper moves faster than a small office can track.
The medical side is just as big. The Memphis Medical District includes Methodist Le Bonheur, Regional One Health, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Around them, private practices and billing offices keep patient files. If you run a clinic in Midtown or along Poplar Avenue, HIPAA applies to what goes into your trash.
Then there are the law firms and financial offices downtown and in East Memphis. These are offices where a shred bin beside the copier has been standard for decades.
One city, three states
The metro crosses state lines. Southaven and Horn Lake are in Mississippi, and West Memphis is in Arkansas, across the river on I-40. A company on the Mississippi side may be subject to different state rules about disposing of personal data than one in Germantown, so check your own state rather than assuming Tennessee's apply. The federal rules for health and financial records are the same everywhere.
Pickup is another matter. A provider based in Shelby County will often serve DeSoto County, but the drive south on I-55 or up US-78 can be slow in the afternoon. West Memphis is a different animal, because the I-40 river crossing is the pinch point. Ask whether the provider routes there on a set day, or only on request.
Getting the job priced
Purge quotes depend on volume and access. A closet of twenty boxes at ground level is straightforward. A records room on the fourth floor of a building without a freight elevator is not. Say so up front and the quote will match the real job. A crew that arrives expecting a dock and finds a flight of stairs will either add time or leave.
For a scheduled service, the price is a flat monthly fee per console. Offices in Collierville and Germantown, with their medical and professional suites, usually need smaller consoles at more desks. A distribution center needs one large bin in the HR corridor and perhaps another by the dock office.
- Tell the provider how many boxes, and where they sit.
- Say if you want to watch the shredding or only get the certificate.
- Mention hard drives, old badges or tapes if you have them. They are a separate line item at most providers.
Who in Memphis actually calls for this
Property managers are a quiet source of volume. A tenant moves out of an office on Poplar and leaves behind eight file cabinets, and the manager needs the suite clean by the end of the month. That is a purge job with a deadline, and quotes for it depend on how fast the provider can get a truck there. Church offices and school administrations call too, usually after a long-serving bookkeeper retires and someone opens the closet.
Auto dealers and repair shops on Summer Avenue and in Bartlett keep deal jackets and customer financing paperwork. Those contain credit information, which is where FACTA comes in. A dealer that tosses them in the dumpster has a real problem.
Mobile or off-site
A shredding truck parked in the lot lets you watch the paper go in. For a firm closing out client files, or a clinic that wants proof, that is a real benefit. It does take space and a clear drive aisle, so measure the lot first. Off-site shredding, where sealed bins go to a plant, costs less per box and is the norm for regular service.
Humidity matters more here than people expect. Boxes stored in a garage or an unconditioned warehouse take on moisture, go soft and jam up. If your files have been in a Memphis summer, tell the provider.
What to insist on
Get a certificate of destruction every time. Ask about NAID AAA Certification. Ask who handles the bins between your office and the plant, and whether they are employees or subcontractors. If the answer is vague, so is the chain of custody.
Timing is the other thing to settle. Freight companies and clinics rarely have a quiet week, so pick a pickup window that does not collide with month-end billing or a payroll run. A driver who shows up while the whole office is on the phones will get waved off, and your next slot may be two weeks away.
Memphis offices tend to keep paper longer than they need to, and the cost of that habit shows up at the first move or audit.
