Dumpster Rental
Roll-Off Dumpsters, 10 to 40 Yards

Pittsburgh Dumpster Rental Services

Call with the jobsite address and what is coming out. Roll-off providers around Pittsburgh, Monroeville and Bethel Park quote the box size, included tons and rental days.

Have the address, dates and the kind of debris ready

Look at the street before you order the box. In Pittsburgh the address tells you less than the grade of the road, and a roll-off truck cannot climb or back down some of them. A site in the Strip District, on flat ground near the river, is an easy drop. A building on a steep street in Lawrenceville or Mount Washington may not be. Tell the dispatcher about the slope, and expect a question or two.

Hills, bridges and tunnels

Three rivers and a lot of valleys mean a lot of bridges and tunnels, and some of them have posted weight limits or height limits. A loaded roll-off is a heavy truck. A driver may need a route that avoids a restricted span, and that adds time to the trip and sometimes to the quote. Low clearances and steep grades are both reasons a provider might decline a spot or suggest a smaller truck.

Photos help. A phone picture of the approach and the place the box will go, texted after your call, can resolve the question in minutes.

Storefront work is its own category. Neighborhood business districts such as Carson Street, Butler Street, Penn Avenue and Murray Avenue in Pittsburgh are packed with narrow storefronts, and a restaurant or shop remodel there can use a small box that sits half on the sidewalk. That likely means a permit and cones, and the city or borough may want the box gone within a few days. Plan the demolition so that the box is full when it leaves.

What is being torn out

Pittsburgh is old brick, plaster and lath, slate roofs, and basements with stone foundations. Rehab work, whether for a restaurant in a former mill building or an office in a downtown tower, produces a lot of dense material. Plaster is heavier than drywall. Slate is much heavier than asphalt shingles. If you have a job with both light and heavy demolition, two smaller boxes serve better than one big one.

Oakland is the university and hospital area, with Pitt and Carnegie Mellon nearby, and building work there is steady. Parking is limited and access rules matter, so the box must be scheduled around deliveries and campus events. Downtown office conversions and residential-to-commercial reuse keep a stream of tenant demolition going.

Business owners here often ask about size. A small restaurant remodel might need a 10 yard box. A full floor gut of an office building needs two 30 yard boxes on a swap. A basement cleanout of an old retail building could fill a 20 yard box with a surprising mix: old stock, shelving, plumbing and a century of sediment. The best way to size it is to describe the job and let the dispatcher recommend, and then ask them how they came up with it.

Steel built this region, and old industrial sites still need clearing. Cleanouts of former workshops and small plants on the rivers produce metal, pipe, concrete and old tools. Ask about a separate box for scrap, since metal is often worth more recycled.

Out in the suburbs

Monroeville and Plum, east of the city, are retail and office areas along the Parkway East and the Turnpike, with plenty of lots that fit a truck. Bethel Park is south, hillier and mostly residential and small commercial, with older strip centers that need renovation. A yard on the east side of town reaches Monroeville and Plum quickly. A yard south of the river does the same for Bethel Park. If a provider is across town from the job, ask whether the delivery is at a surcharge.

Allegheny County has many separate municipalities, and each can have its own rules for a box on the street. Some want a permit and some limit how long it can sit, and a few ask for a sign or reflective markers. The rule that counts is the one where the job sits, not where the provider is based.

Freeze, thaw and snow

Winter here is wet and icy. Steep streets with snow can be off limits to a truck, and a delivery that was set for Tuesday can slide to Thursday. Thawing ground makes a loaded box shift, so use timbers or plywood. Salt and slush on a box left uncovered add weight. If your project runs through winter, ask the provider how they handle snow days, and keep a spare day in the plan.

The quote

Get the included tonnage, the rate for each extra ton, the number of rental days and the fee for extra days in writing, and ask what is refused. Refrigerant appliances, tires, paint and batteries top that list in most places. Have the address, dates and debris type in front of you.

A provider who asks about the hill is a provider who has done Pittsburgh work before.

Cost drivers here are mostly weight and distance. There are several disposal sites around the region, and the drive from your job to the nearest one matters. A provider with a yard in the same valley as the project quotes with less travel built in. In a region where one river crossing can eat a big part of a trip, that is not a small difference.

And plan on a second visit. Tell the provider when the box will be full, and give them a window. A phone call the day before pickup keeps the driver from showing up while crews are still loading.
