No, 45 is not too old to go to the gym to get a six pack. You’re never too old to workout and get in shape. You’ve got to get your diet in check and that’s the most important part of getting that six pack. You’ve got to go to the gym to do that cardio and that’s going to help burn those calories. You’ve also got to hit the weight room to build the muscle that’s going to keep the fat off and make it easier to see that six pack.

So the diet, as you may know, is the most important part – you need to change the stuff you’re eating if it’s not healthy. This means lowering sugar and fat intake. You want to eat all the fresh foods you can find and get rid of the dairy products. You don’t really need to be drinking a bunch of milk, or eating yogurt and cheese if you plan on getting a role on Bay Watch.

Keep the proteins high and eat your vegetables with complex carbs in small proportions 4-5 times a day. Lean proteins include fish, chicken and lean steak. Also fresh vegetables only. Complex carbs include oatmeal, rice and potatoes.

When you go to the gym, make sure you’re hitting the cardio (stationary treadmill) 5 hours per week. You don’t need to run on the treadmill. Walk at a moderate pace with the treadmill elevated. You should have a sweat going after about 20 minutes.

Weight training is essential to build muscle and keep the body fat in check because it helps to promote muscle growth. Just make sure you have a full body workout that means upper and lower body. A lot of guys like to skip the legs but the truth is that the legs are the biggest muscles in the body and require a lot of energy when training them. This translates into burning a lot of calories, so don’t skip them.

The hardest part about trying to get a toned body with a six pack when you’re older is you can’t cash in on the high testosterone levels that you had when you were younger. For both men and women, the higher testosterone levels in our youth helped with processing body fat. As we age, these testosterone levels diminish hence the higher body fat levels that accumulate, especially if we’re stagnant or sedentary.

What all this means for you is that it will be a lot easier to attain the six pack even after the age of 40 as long as you adhere to healthy eating and working out.
